چکیده

We have developed a distributed and extensible environment for modeling multidisciplinary engineering problems using the Internet. The system allows both new and existing numerical tools to be represented as components that connect to form complex simulations. Numerically intensive calculations are relegated to dedicated servers, while a variety of clients— including web pages and applets— can be used to control the simulation remotely. A novel event-driven paradigm allows the user to perform "what-if"type calculations interactively; a minimum amount of data is automatically recalculated by the system. The various features of the environment are demonstrated by computing the compressible flow through a 3D geometry.

High-Performance Storage Support for Scientific Big Data Applications on the Cloud

This work studies the storage subsystem for scientific big data applications to be running on the cloud. Although cloud computing has become one of the most popular paradigms for executing data-intensive applications, the storage subsystem has not been optimized for scientific applications. In particular, many scientific applications were originally developed assuming a tightly-coupled cluster ...

Demonstrations of Collaborative Web Services and Peer-to-Peer Grids

Peer-to-Peer Grids is a new trend in scientific computing and collaboration. It is based on the Peer-to-Peer and Grids technologies and leverages the advantages of both. We develop our collaborative PowerPoint and IE (Internet Explorer) applications with a common Peer-to-Peer Grid architecture. We make NaradaBrokering as our dynamic messaging environment and systematic use of Web Services as on...

Java for Large-Scale Scientific Computations?

The Java programming language has its origins in the development of portable internet applications, that are interpreted on the client machine. However, a number of software projects have adopted it as the language of choice for a wide variety of applications, including numerically intensive scientiic computing. Given its heritage, the suitability of Java for such application domains remains qu...
